Our Top 10 Camping Must-Haves
It’s time to adventure! After years of traveling and camping, we have developed our list of must-have items for every camping trip and are sharing it with you. Some of these may be self-explanatory, but they have become a staple in our camping experiences and we can’t go without them!
1
Roofnest Sparrow
Got a car? Want to camp comfortably? We travel & camp with the Roofnest Sparrow and it’s our best purchase to date. This baby travels full-time on our truck. It’s perfect for camping as it’s takes less than 4 mins to set up (check out our timelapse here)! It includes a 7cm foam mattress, 3 vented doors/windows, retractable ladders, and tons of room inside. It fits us both comfortably, PLUS our bags!
2
Marmot Maverick Double Wide Sleeping Bag
We like to camp throughout the year — and sometimes it can get super cold. Body heat is crucial for the cooler months, and our double wide Marmot Maverick Sleeping Bag is perfect for that purpose. It’s rated for 30 degrees (F), can unzip into two separate sleeping bags, and is SO easy to compress back into its bag, unlike most that you have to wrestle back in!
Unfortunately, the Maverick is no longer being made, but this Kelty Tru.Comfort Double Wide Sleeping Bag (as seen to the left) has incredible reviews & is a great alternative with similar pricing, but an even better degree rating for 20 degrees — AND it comes in multiple colors!
3
Helinox Sunset Chairs
We have to rate this as our second best purchase to date. We fell in love with these chairs after seeing them at an outdoor shop in Northern Minnesota, but ended up buying online due to store availability. These Helinox Sunset Chairs are extremely easy to assemble/disassemble, lightweight, and compact that they are the perfect camping chair. With a higher back, longer legs, and vented seats, these are not only comfortable, but convenient as well.
4
YETI Cooler & Ramblers
We cannot go anywhere without our YETI gear — and they are so crucial for all of our camping/travel adventures. YETI has since discontinued our backpack cooler, but we also bring this YETI hard 24-can cooler everywhere too mostly for our food. We also bring our 12oz as well as 16oz ramblers everywhere to keep our drinks cold.
5
Jetboil
We love our morning coffees, so we always bring our Jetboil to be able to easily boil up water quick and then we enjoy some coffee from our french press. We don’t typically use this to cook, although it definitely can be used for that purpose!
6
Weber Fire Starter Cubes
Okay, yes this is cheating… but these fire starter cubes are literally the best thing on the market. We stumbled upon these Weber Fire Starter Cubes accidentally at Home Depot once, but you only need 1 per fire, and they go forever! Easiest way to start a fire.
7
Cast Iron Skillet / Wok
While camping, food is obviously a must — and we pride ourselves in our camp meals! A skillet or wok is definitely needed, and we primarily like to bring our Weber Cast Iron Wok on our camping trips so that we can make awesome meals like camp fried rice, crispy hash browns, walking tacos and more.
The Weber brand version is no longer available, but this 14” seasoned cast iron wok is a great alternative!
8
Duracell Headlamps and Lantern
Headlamps and lanterns are a must — especially if you want to have any visibility when it gets dark. We bought these Duracell brand headlamps (3-pack) and lanterns (2-pack) at Costco, but we are in love with how bright these are, how long they’ve lasted, and how many settings they have too. They’re also small and compact, so it’s easy to pack and bring with you.
9
Water Cube
This water cube is perfect for all camping and road trips — it’s easily collapsible, fills up easily, and also dispenses easily from the spout. These water cubes come in a variety of sizes and also have a handle for easier transportation.
Whether you are using for drinking water, for cooking, or brushing your teeth, this water cube is SO convenient and great for a big group!
10
Marmot Duffle Bag
Without a doubt, ever since we got these Marmot Long Hauler Duffle Bags, we have used them for every single trip… not just for camping. We love that it’s compactable, has multiple pockets, handles, and areas to attach carabiners, and that you can also wear it as a backpack, or use the long strap/short straps.
